The Journal provides ideas and activities that teachers can integrate with the regular curriculum. It does not add classroom work to your normal curriculum. These activities help you establish alliance with your students by recognizing and respecting each student’s individuality. They follow a movement through the year, sensitive to the way students slowly risk revealing who they are as they feel the acceptance they need to express themselves fully. This is a delicate process, not to be confused with building self-esteem that promotes looking down on others. Rather, it nurtures a wholesome sense of self-worth built on developing respect for others as integral with one’s own self-respect.
